Obituary For
Elva Allen

Elva Dickinson Allen, 85, of Saginaw, MI, passed away on February 20, 2010, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 18, 1924 in Tecumseh, MI to Clair and Mae (Gentry) Dickinson. On September 25, 1949 in Tecumseh, she married Alfred W. Allen. Sadly, he preceded her in death on November 1, 2009.


A nurse, she, at one time was a surgical nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, Ann Arbor, served as a school nurse at Lincoln School, New Providence, NJ, where she was also certified as a teacher, and was a realtor in New Jersey. Elva was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Boulder City, NV, was a past elder at the 1st Presbyterian Church in New Providence, NJ, and a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Summit, NJ. She was an animal lover, and especially loved her Jack Russell terrier, Tiger.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Paul William (Carol) Allen of Sanford, MI; daughter, Teresa Sue Allen of Basking Ridge, NJ; brother, Allen (Rexine) Dickinson of Martinsburg, WV; sister, Anita (Bill) Beardsley of Andover, NJ; and 3 grandsons, Reid, Trent, and Chase Allen.
Entombment has taken place next to her husband in Riverside Cemetery, Clinton, a memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:30 AM, on May 15, 2010, in the mausoleum at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 11 AM until the time of services. Rev. David McKinstry of United Methodist Church, Tecumseh will officiate. The Clinton Chapel of the Handler Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in her name may be given to the Heartland Hospice of Saginaw.
