Bienvenido G. Buenaflor, M.D., 72, of Tecumseh, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at Herrick Medical Center surrounded by his family. Dr. Buenaflor was born on April 27, 1937 in Tagig, Rizal, Phillipines, the son of Juan and Consolacion (Guerrero) Buenaflor. He married Filomena Villasenor on May 14, 1966 and she survives.
Dr. Buenaflor came to the United States in 1962 from the Phillipines and was a dedicated and passionate surgeon at Herrick Medical Center from 1971 until he retired in July, 2007. He pioneered laproscopic surgery in southeast Michigan. Along with his wife, he had a general medical and general surgical practice on Cairns Street in Tecumseh since 1971. Dr. Buenaflor was an avid wood worker, deer hunter and tree farmer. He loved to do yard work and spend time outdoors. Dr. Buenaflor was a kind, gentle and humble man with a great sense of humor. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather whose greatest joy in life was the time he spent with his family and vacationing with them. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Buenaflor is survived by his mother Consolacion Buenaflor of the Phillipines, children, Joji Buenaflor of Tecumseh, Kay (William Jr.) Prong of Brooklyn, Luis (Kara) Buenaflor of Tecumseh; one grandson, Zane; siblings, Alberto (Christina), Cesar (Nelia), Daisy Buenaflor, Erlinda (Andy) Espiritu, Fiorello (Irene), Gertrudes (Tony) Calandra, Hilda (Dan) Fleischman and Isagani (Teody); and his dog "Boz". He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Sunday, January 17, 2010 at 4 PM at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Rev. Father Daniel Wheeler officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church from 2 PM until the time of the Mass. Rite of Committal will be at Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church or the John C. Damelio Mausoleum Beautification Fund.
